For 2008 we have incorporated a removable hip belt on the G4™ Ultralight Backpack. This feature allows a better fit for the user. This system also provides thru-hikers the ability to utilize two different size hip belts on those months-long, weight-shedding long distance hikes. A hiker could start out with a larger hip belt and then mail the smaller one to a mail drop up ahead on the trail when they feel they will have lost enough weight to justify the smaller belt. No more field sewing of the hip belt with floss to make it fit better!

NOTE: This hip belt is different than the Mariposa Plus removable hip belt in that it doesn't have the 3D spacer mesh. It's just two sides of the 210 denier 4 oz. per sq. yd. (135.7 g. per sq. m.) urethane-coated double wall ripstop nylon. The materials used are the same as on prior G4's but it's now removable.
