Product Description

NEW LOWER SALE PRICE!

THE G5 HYPERLIGHT BACKPACK HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED. IT HAS BEEN REPLACED BY THE MURMUR™

WE ARE OUT OF THE SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZES.

The G5™ Hyperlight pack is one of the lightest packs with a hip belt on the planet. It is designed to effectively incorporate the "dual use" technique of ultralight backpacking. Your sleeping pad (NightLight™ torso, Z-Lite™/Z-Rest™, Thermarest® 3/4 length, or other 20"-wide pad) becomes the pack frame by inserting into the back of the pack. This way it can be extracted during rest stops to sit/lay on without unpacking your pack. The shoulder straps and hip belt are designed to accept unused articles of clothing as padding. Foam inserts are included if you are disinclined to use sleeping socks, gloves etc as your padding.

The bottom of the pack "flares" out to provide more area for your sleeping bag, to minimize loss of loft from overstuffing. As a user tip, when you are carrying a bear canister, this expanded bottom area allows you to put the bear canister in horizontally in the bottom of the pack (after taking out your trail food for the day), putting your sleeping bag and clothes on top of the canister. The HUGE side pockets will hold, as an example, two, 2-liter soda bottles, on EACH side! A generous mesh pocket on the back of the pack gives you a place to put sodden items where they won't dampen the other contents of your pack.

The G5™ is designed with the emphasis on light weight. For instance, the side pockets are spinnaker ripstop nylon instead of mesh because the spinnaker fabric is actually lighter than mesh. The closure is a unique and light "roll-top" closure, similar to that used in some dry bags. A channel is sewn into the top of the extension collar with a drawcord and cordlock included.

This pack is recommended for only the lightest backpackers. Typically, if you are careful with your gear, place an extreme emphasis on low pack weight, are willing to replace gear more frequently as it wears out, and have a base pack weight before food and water of 10 lbs or less, you may be a candidate for a G5™. If you are wondering if the G5™ pack is right for you, then it is not.
