Product Description
ALL NEW DESIGN! PRICE IS PER PAIR
"During my 2004 PCT hike on into 2006 I had seen a few sets of carbon fiber trekking poles on the trail but had immediately discounted them after hearing stories of carbon poles snapping like twigs and I just personally felt that carbon poles would not hold up to the use & abuse a thru-hiker would put on them during a multi-month hike. After 500+ miles of testing with the Gossamer Gear Lightreks, I am not only a convert to carbon fiber poles, but they are currently my favorite piece of gear! These poles are amazing!" After much research and development and months of testing we bring you a new fixed length trekking pole that we feel is the finest in the world. The Lightrek 3's are not only lighter than our previous Lightreks they are far stronger as well. A great deal of effort and resources went into the designing of the new shafts, which are now made in the USA and have been thoroughly field tested with an overwhelming thumbs up. We are using new tips as well so the only thing old school about these is the grip. We could go on and on about the specific engineering and manufacturing that goes into one of these but really you've got to try them to see just how great they are!
The poles feature the same fully ergonomic EVA "Kork-o-lon" grips and a hardened carbide tip accepts Leki brand baskets. A set of trekking baskets are included with the poles. The price is for a pair of poles.
The poles do not have straps, but before you think they’re necessary, try a ~2 oz. pole. Most testers who bemoaned the lack of straps found they liked the poles better without straps, after using them for a few trips, because of the extreme light weight. A small loop of Spectra cord at the bottom of the handle allows the user to attach "keeper" straps or cords, to leave hands free when taking photos, for instance. The loops are not designed to take any significant force, and are not intended as an attachment point for conventional straps.
If you love your Lightrek 3 poles, and hike in areas far from your home, now you have a way to protect them while in transit! The Lightrek Travel Tube is a heavy duty industrial grade cardboard shipping tube. The walls are 1/8" thick, rendering them impervious to savage baggage handlers. With an inside diameter of 3 inches, they have room for two pairs of Lightrek 3 poles with baskets removed, or one set and whatever small items you can stuff in there. The plastic caps are reusable, and are recessed so they don't catch on baggage conveyors. We recommend you use packing tape or duct tape to secure the caps onto the tube, then check them with the rest of your luggage. Even when you are traveling by car, these tubes provide an extra measure of comfort for transporting your poles, especially if you're in a group with a bunch of people throwing gear in vans.

We do not have photos of the new poles yet but they are still black and look very similar to the old poles. The main difference being the construction of the shaft which is now wider at the top and tapered at the bottom.
