Oregon Pacific Crest Trail - 2006
Strider, Irish and Mr. Wizard all check their respective maps/guides/data books. Cowboy has thrown on a jacket to avoid getting chilled in the morning coolness. As you can see by the packs strewn around, this was an all-Gossamer pack outing. A creative use of a log to create a sturdy bridge over the Sandy River.
The volcanic eruptions of the past have created layers of pumice and ash hundreds of feet thick, that are easily eroded by streams. These are the exposed sediments of Slide Mountain. There were some dry stretches, but this was not one of them.
Glen crossed a more basic version of a bridge, holding his Lightreks out for balance. Unfortunately, the Lightreks aren't heavy enough to provide much inertial guidance, but Glen managed to make it across dry. Mr. Wizard in front of the beautiful Ramona Falls.

Crossing Little Zigzag Canyon. A couple of days later, after a zero day in Sisters, Oregon and detouring around a forest fire, the group continues south from McKenzie Pass across the Belknap Lava Field.
