Wonderland Trail - 2009
We had beautiful scenery at every turn of the trail. Even though it was warm on the trail, there was still significant snow at the higher elevations (not even counting the many glaciers). Henry descending a portion of the trail done in steps. There was a lot of up and down on the trail, and the portions with steps were brutal on the quads going up and the knees going down.
A resident herd of mountain goats on the other side of Panhandle Gap. There are apparently two herds often seen in the area. This one was 26 strong, and did not seem that concerned with the presence of another hiker who walked to within a few hundred feet of them. In the Summerland area, where the goats were, there was this beautiful little wild garden nestled in rocks. Henry spent 15 minutes shooting pics and got some great ones.
After Summerland, it was a long way down to Fryingpan Creek. Doing switchbacks through the flowers.
Then it was back up the other side. Henry looking back towards Frozen Lake. We had spent the night at White River campground, a somewhat jarring experience since it was a drive-in campground filled with RVs etc. We were glad to leave in the morning, even if it was a big climb to Sunrise campground and a breakfast beside Frozen Lake.
