The Whisper™ Story
When Backpacking Light Publisher Ryan Jordan contacted us about manufacturing an ultralight backpack that was more consistent with his Super-Ultralight fastpacking philosophy, I handed him a G5™ Hyperlight Backpack. His reply: "Too big. Too heavy." And so, the Whisper™ was born.
Ryan's design philosophy focused on whittling the G5™ concept down to the bare essentials of backpack function: a small packbag with shoulder straps. The only luxury that was added back - a G5™ style rear bellows pocket for storing wet gear, a wind shirt or jacket for rest stops, or a collapsible water bottle.
The Whisper™ offers signature Gossamer Gear features, including unpadded shoulder strap pockets for inserting socks or other soft gear for padding, our roll-top closure secured by hook-and-loop tabs, and 210 denier Oxford nylon in key body contact areas.
We now have a limited supply of Whisper's™ that include a hip belt option allowing you to bring the bottom of the pack closer to your body. This stabilizes the pack on those fast hikes and only adds 1.9 ounces to the total weight. The hip belt comes in two sizes, Medium and Large, to accommodate a wide range of waist sizes. The Medium will fit waist sizes 32" and smaller and the Large will fit 33" and larger. Please note that the hip belt is sewn onto the pack and is not removable without cutting it off.

Intended Use
The Whisper™ Uberlight is intended for two primary applications:
- Day Pack. At less than 4 oz. (113 g.), the Whisper™ Uberlight can be stowed in your backpack (use it as a sleeping bag stuff sack!) for base-camp style backpacking.
- Overnight Pack. With a volume of about 2000 c.i. (33 l.), the Whisper™ Uberlight offers enough space for most ultralight hikers for an overnight or a weekend, provided that you keep the weight less than 15 lbs. (7 kg.), and use gear that is compact: solo tarp shelter, summer weight down sleeping bag, alcohol stove with a small pot, etc.
