Ambassador - Emily "Squishy" Schrick
Q&A with Part-Time Vagabond, Emily Schrick:
Trail Name?: Squishy
Home Base: San Fransico, CA
Trail Resume: Thru Hikes on PCT NOBO, John Muir Trail SOBO, Wonderland Trail, High Sierra Trail
What does it mean personally to #takelessdomore?: For me, it means that I don't have to worry about "extra" items I've brought along - I just get to enjoy nature and where I'm hiking. Taking less also means my pack generally weighs less, so strenuous hikes become more enjoyable.
What got you into the world of UL hiking?: I initially started hiking in college as a way to escape the city and campus. It was mentally soothing, and physically rewarding, and also re-sparked my love for photography. Backpacking was the natural next step from day hiking, and I became obsessed with the idea of thru-hiking and living out of a backpack shortly after.
Favorite piece of GG gear?: My Gorilla is my favorite pack! It fits so well, is so cushioned, and can even fit a bear canister. It is my go-to utility pack.
Favorite Section of trail you've been on so far?: I haven't been everywhere yet (it's probably on my list), but it's truly hard to beat the Pacific Crest Trail, especially the High Sierra and Northern Washington portions.
What's a dream objective on your list?: I am hoping to complete the Triple Crown by 2023 and start tackling off-trail high routes, and hopefully some international hiking!
What organization or non-profit are you seeing do great work?: I believe the outdoors should be a safe space and empowering for everyone! That's why I really support SheJumps (@shejumps) and Outdoor Journal Tour (@outdoorjournaltour) as organizations that are passionate about getting girls and women of all races, ethnicities, and sexual orientations outside, and using the outdoors for personal growth and healing.
