Philip's White Mountains Gear List

Philip's White Mountains Gear List

This is hiker Philip Werner's summer gear list is designed for backpacking in New Hampshire's White Mountains on trips lasting from 1-4 days in length. Summer temperatures can range from 30 to 100 degrees fahrenheit, depending on weather conditions and elevation. Wind chill and hypothermia are serious risks year round, particularly above treeline. The terrain is extremely rocky but also quite wet at lower elevations, with numerous stream crossings and dense forest.
