How quickly can I deploy the FT3 poles while on the move?
Fast enough to keep your momentum. Pull them from a pocket, unfold, and lock in seconds — no twisting sections or digging through pack straps. When the grade eases, they fold back up just as fast.
Can I use the FT3 poles to pitch my Gossamer Gear shelter?
Yes. The shelter icon on the shaft is calibrated to our One and Two ultralight shelters for a fast, confident pitch. Extend to the icon, stake out, done. Using a different shelter? Start at the icon and adjust from there.
How durable are carbon fiber folding poles? Should I be worried about durability?
Carbon fiber rewards confident, straight-on loading, don't use them to catch a fall or lever against rocks at odd angles. With proper use they're trail-tough. Rinse after muddy or salty days, loosen the clamp before storage, and they'll stay crisp mile after mile. Note that carbon fiber breakage is not covered under warranty.
What's the difference between the FT3 and the LT5?
Deploy speed vs. adjustability. The FT3 is built for fastpacking and trail running when you need to grab your poles quickly as terrain changes. The LT5s are telescoping with a wider length range, better suited for all-day hiking where poles stay out most of the time. Move fast and frequently stash your poles? FT3. Poles out all day? LT5.
Are the FT3 poles carry-on friendly?
Yes, that's one of the biggest advantages of a folding design. The FT3 folds down to 38 cm (about 15 inches), which fits easily in most carry-on bags and personal item backpacks. No more checking a bag or shipping poles to your trailhead. We recommend using the boot covers on the tips before packing them. Success can vary depending on the TSA agent, please check your airline's policy before flying.
