As the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted lives across the world, we’ve been thinking about those on the frontlines, like medical professionals, EMTs, and search and rescue (SAR) teams. In the face of this global crisis, we’ve been asking ourselves how we can: Take less. Do more. Support local.

Here in Travis County, Texas, where Gossamer Gear is headquartered, Travis County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) has had to cancel all of their major spring fundraisers, and are currently under-equipped. TCSAR was organized in 1993 as a 501(c)(3) First Responder Organization based in Austin. They provide services for emergency management, fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies on short notice, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This 100% volunteer team relies on donations to support its field operations.

Our own Jonathan Schmid is one of these TCSAR volunteers, and Gossamer Gear opens its doors throughout the year to let TCSAR use its office space for their monthly meeting. It's a partnership we're proud to have as a company.

As hikers, we understand the importance of SAR teams on the trail, but now, these emergency responders are being called to the forefront of fighting this pandemic, too. So, we've been thinking about how we can deepen our partnership with TCSAR.

In early 2019, we introduced the Texas Collection to our Gossamer Gear line of packs, including the Lonestar 30 and the Ranger 35. These packs were made tough just like the Lone Star State and were our proud nod to our headquarters’ home here in Austin, Texas. Now, we want these packs to be able to give back to our community to help all of us get through this hard stretch.

Beginning on Sunday, 4/5, all proceeds from the Texas Collection will go directly to TCSAR. By purchasing a Ranger 35 or Lonestar 30, you’ll be providing critical support to our first responders to ensure they can do their work as safely as possible, helping the most people they can.

And, as a reminder, all first responders receive a pro deal with us at Gossamer Gear. So, if you’re out there helping all of us, make sure to reach out so we can help you out, too.

Thank you in advance to our Gossamer Gear community for supporting TCSAR through your purchase. We encourage you to look up your local SAR team and donate to them directly to support local during this time, as well.

Stay well, everyone! We look forward to when we can all see each other safely on the trail again.
