This little pack is ready for rugged days! It's perfectly sized to hold what you need without excess capacity making it floppy and in the way. I've used it for day long peak bagging excursions, scrambles in the flatirons, and local hikes. The water bottle holders are perfectly snug for a smart water bottle or equivalent, and the sunglasses pocket is a nice touch. The fabric is robust and holds up to abrasion well, especially in the flatirons where I'm often dragging it against the rocks. Awesome pack through and through!
Buy the pack. I was looking for something that i could use for quick day hikes and as an everyday office/ class carry and it definitely works for both. It fits my 14” MacBook pro with my bibles and study materials and has lots of pocket storage. Hiking its a dream. I absolutely love the adjustable chest strap (ladies with boobs the girls can breathe 😂) and the fact that i can add the fast hip belt for more support when hiking is a game changer. It holds my 2 cnoc 1L water bottles in the side pockets and my small sit pad fits in the mesh outer pocket with room for more. Cant recommend this pack enough. The padding on the shoulder straps and back are firm and comfortable so even when the pack is loaded down it feels comfortable. This is my favorite gear company hands down, and products like this that are so versatile for men and women is why.
The pack fits over my chest instead of resting on the sides of my chest which is a lot more comfortable for me as a woman!!! Loved the fit, it conforms to my back really well which allowed me to take it on some running/high intensity hiking adventures. I also was able to hitch my snowshoes to it with some sling via the gear loops that are on the pack. Such a great tiny detail! I like that the mesh material on the outside back of the pack is more durable than typical mesh is, which allowed me to bushwhack with it without having to worry all that much about tearing it up. The 15L is the perfect size pack to ensure that you have enough space for everything you need, while also small enough that it forces you to not excessively overpack.
My only request: the front pockets on the backpack straps are just slightly too tiny to hold a bear spray canister. Would be helpful to have them slightly larger :D they did fit my iPhone easily though!
The fact that this pack is so lightweight, but was durable enough to withstand the weight of my snowshoes, is a testament to how much integrity has been put into the design process. Thanks GG!!!
I wish there was a perfec…wait! There is! This new pack is AMAZING! I can barely tell it’s on! The chest pockets are just right for an iPhone 16 ProMax, the other for my GPS and a snack. The pack itself can easily handle a days worth of gear, including a puffy jacket, snacks/lunch, hat, sit pad, my Kindle, a journal, rain jacket. Even with all that there is still room for more! Just got it this week and already put it to the test on two separate day hikes. I’m already in love! Where has this been all my life?
I liked how the shoulder straps are pretty wide, sometimes on smaller packs I feel like you fill it up pretty heavily with water and then thin straps kind of weigh down on your shoulders, but these cover a lot of your chest, which make it fit more comfortably. Nice pouch on the outside to easily access snacks, water, or a place to put trash you find on the hike. This makes a really good follower pack on shorter multi pitch climbs. I think it’s right in the sweet spot of how much stuff you can fit in, so for big days out, I’ll take my big climbing pack and then just pack this 15 L one inside flat, then once we get to the base of the climb, I’ll just take it out and load it up with the snacks and water and you are ready to blast baby.
What a perfect little pack. I’ve used this about a month now and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. I wanted something in the 15 liter range to carry on short scrambles, around town, on less demanding hikes, etc. and this fills the bill perfectly. It carries well even without a hip belt (the shoulders straps are robust and comfortable), has sufficient capacity to carry a day of necessities, carries 3L of water comfortably, and stays snug against the back all the while. Durability remains to be seen, but I’m sure it will hold up as well as other GG offerings. Great product, perfectly sized.
Love this l’il guy! Fits my MacBook Neo, my work clothes, my snacks, and drinks. Comfy shoulder straps. Perfect as an EDC or for day hikes. Side pockets fit smart water bottles perfectly.
Works great for day hikes and trail runs too. I have been using this little pack all summer for those trips where I am not sure what the day has ahead. I can easily pack extra layers for changes in weather and lunch with snacks, two liters of water in the side pockets and my phone in the strap pocket and be off for a full day of hiking, walking or running. Because the side pockets are so nice and tight if I choose to run instead of hike everything stays put and there is minimal bouncing. This pack is nice and light and fits well and is something that I forget I am even wearing once I get going. I don’t feel as dorky wearing this when my run turns into more of a hike and it looks cool for city adventures or air travel too.

The pack is well made and has useful features. I especially like the shoulder strap pockets. It looks sharp and would make a fine urban pack.
I was hoping for a smaller version of the terrific Minimalist. This is not it. My main issue is that the shoulder straps are quite firm and do not sit well on my shoulders no matter how long I adjust them. The back pad is also firm and not removable. I find it not so comfortable for hiking.
I really wanted to like this backpack, as I love Gossamer Gear's ethos and their materials are high quality, but it wasn't the right ergonomics for me. I'm 5'1", with a short torso and broad shoulders, and it's clear that this bag was not made for my body specs. The backpack was too long, such that I had to have the shoulder straps cinched all the way tight, and even then there was some rubbing on my hips from the bottom of the backpack. (If there's not a hip belt included in the backpack design, I prefer it to be no longer than my low waist, to prevent this rubbing.) The shoulder straps are set too narrow, and while I appreciate the ample padding for weight absorption, they were starting to dig into my neck. And the sternum strap, even at its highest position, was still more like a mid-chest strap at best, which was not comfortable as a lady. The features were generally great - love the stretchy outside pockets, and it's nice that the water bladder-type pocket inside doesn't go all the way down to the base of the backpack. But unfortunately it's not one I can keep. Please consider making a short-friendly version!
Everything they say is true: wonderful pack! So lightweight but so comfortable. Really useful size for dayhikes. While inside space is limited, the stretch pouch makes it nicely expandable. Kinda wish it had one more small security pocket, and/or at least a key latch in the zippered pocket. LOVE the two shoulder-strap pouches, which are perfect for my reading and sunglasses.
I’ve taken this on many day hikes already and I love it! The water bottle pockets are perfectly snug for smartwater bottles- I love that I don’t have to worry about my water bottle falling out while climbing a rock scramble. I also appreciate that there is no hip belt because I always find that overkill for a day hike. The ONLY thing that would make this pack better is if it had the removable sit pad like the mariposa does.
It's a nice little pack, cleanly sewn, all the zippers work easily. Carries comfortably between the shoulder blades, so good shape for a small pack. The two mesh side pockets each carry a slim water bottle, and will fit a 1L Nalgene bottle if you try. There's a corrugated foam back pad with a mesh cover that's reasonably comfortable against my back. Still gets sweaty, but probably not as much as it could. Hey, it's summer; no pack is going to totally eliminate sweat.
One thing I wish the pack came with a simple waist best. Doesn't need to be much, just a length of webbing each side with a side=release buckle to join the pieces. I purchased the belt that clips on to the pack, but that's a bit of overkill, with the built-in pockets and all. Also, I think the padding in the shoulder straps could be lighter and thinner, given the pack size and all the ways GG tried to make the pack light. Small gripes. If you need a small pack for hiking, cycling, even rock climbing, this is a good one.
